La 25e escadrille effectue sa première mission de combat aérien au-dessus de The Hump le 25 septembre 1942, dans le cadre d'une mission d'escorte de combat. Après le transfert de l'escadron à l'aérodrome de Dinjan, dans l'Assam, en Inde, l'activité de combat s'intensifie. En raison du terrain, les pilotes doivent généralement "traîner" lors de leurs passages. C'est là que la 25e escadrille a pris le nom de Assam Draggins (dragueurs d'Assam).

The 25th flew its first aerial combat mission over The Hump on 25 September 1942, flying a combat escort mission. After the squadron moved to Dinjan Airfield in Assam, India, combat activity increased. Due to the terrain, the pilots would usually "drag in" on their passes. It was there that the 25th picked up the name Assam Draggins
