Décoration spéciale appliquée sur un Lockheed U-2S (68-10329) "Dragon Lady" du 9th Operations Group - Air Combat Command (ACC) - 9th Reconnaissance Wing (9 RW) - 99th Reconnaissance Squadron (99 RS) de l'Armée de l'Air des Etats-Unis (USAF) basé à Beale Air Force Base et affecté à RAF Fairford Force Base pour honorer après trente ans, le capitaine David "Hawk" Hawkens et le U-2 crashé à la RAF Fairford le 29 août 1995. Le vendredi 29 août 2025, le personnel du 99e escadron de reconnaissance expéditionnaire, qui exploite toujours le Lockheed U-2 depuis la base RAF Fairford, s'est réuni pour honorer la mémoire de « Hawk » en décorant le Lockheed U-2S 68-10329 d'un nez en craie afin de commémorer cet aviateur talentueux. Alors que la base RAF Fairford continue de soutenir des missions de reconnaissance à travers le monde, l'histoire du capitaine David Hawkens reste un chapitre poignant de son histoire. Il volait seul et sans crainte, dans un avion qui exigeait la perfection. Et bien que son dernier vol se soit terminé en tragédie, son héritage perdure : les leçons apprises, les monuments érigés et le respect silencieux de ceux qui continuent de fouler la piste d'atterrissage.

On Friday 29th August 2025 Personnel from 99th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron, who still operate the Lockheed U-2 from RAF Fairford gathered to honor the memory of “Hawk” with Lockheed U-2S 68-10329 receiving a wrap around chalk nose art to remember the talented aviator. As RAF Fairford continues to support global reconnaissance missions, the story of Captain David Hawkens remains a poignant chapter in its history. He flew alone and unafraid, in an aircraft that demanded perfection. And though his final flight ended in tragedy, his legacy endures— n the lessons learned, the memorials raised, and the quiet respect of those who still walk the flight line.

Le N991SF a servi dans l'Aeronautica Militare à Grosseto sous le numéro MM54258 de 1964 à 2004 et est désormais basé au Centre spatial de la NASA, en Floride. Il s'agit du premier Straighter à voler en Europe depuis que l'ancien CF-104D LN-STF de l'armée de l'air norvégienne a été immobilisé en 2018 en raison de problèmes liés au siège éjectable
Special decoration applied to a Canadair TF-104G "Starfighters" (N991SF - ex Italian Air Force TF-104G-M MM54258) of the "Starfighters" Inc Demo Team, a private company based at Clearwater Airport, Florida, which restores and flies several "Starfighters" from different armed forces with a special tail fin to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Italian Air Force (1923/2023). The N991SF served in the Aeronautica Militare in Grosseto under the number MM54258 from 1964 to 2004 and is now based at the NASA Space Center in Florida. It is the first Straighter to fly in Europe since the former Norwegian Air Force CF-104D LN-STF was grounded in 2018 due to problems with the ejection seat.
