Construit par McDonnell-Douglas en janvier 1971, le "301" était le premier F-4 Phantom II pour la Japan Air Self Defense Force. Ce sera aussi l'un des derniers Phantoms à prendre sa retraite en mars 2021, après 50 ans de service. Le 17 mars 2021, les trois avions F-4EJ Phantom restants de la Japan Air Self-Defense Force ont effectué leur dernier vol à la base aérienne de Gifu

Built by McDonnell-Douglas in January 1971, the "301" was the first F-4 Phantom II for Japan Air Self Defence Force. It will also be one of the last Phantoms to be retired in March 2021, after 50 years of service. On March 17, 2021, the remaining three F-4EJ Phantom aircraft of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force made their last flight at Gifu Air Base.
