La société d'État russe United Aircraft Corporation a publié les premières images d'une nouvelle variante du chasseur de cinquième génération Su-57. L'avion, portant le numéro d'astreinte 055, qui serait baptisé Su-57D et a décollé de l'aérodrome Gromov Flight Research Institut de Zhukovsky près de Moscou pour son premier vol le 19 mai 2026. Cela s'est produit juste un jour après la fuite de la première image de l'appareil, confirmant ainsi son développement, auquel les responsables russes font allusion depuis plus de cinq ans. Par rapport au Su-57 de base, la verrière du cockpit de l'appareil est nettement allongée et surélevée pour accueillir un deuxième pilote derrière le pilote principal. The Russian state-owned company United Aircraft Corporation has released the first images of a new variant of the fifth-generation Su-57 fighter jet. The aircraft, bearing the serial number 055, is reportedly designated the Su-57D and took off from the Gromov Flight Research Institute airfield in Zhukovsky near Moscow for its maiden flight on May 19, 2026. This occurred just one day after the first image of the aircraft was leaked, confirming its development, which Russian officials have been hinting at for over five years. Compared to the base Su-57, the aircraft’s cockpit canopy is significantly elongated and raised to accommodate a second pilot behind the primary pilot. The primary objective of this aircraft’s development remains unclear, but a two-seater could prove highly advantageous for command and control missions within the Russian forces, particularly when operating alongside unmanned “wingman” aircraft such as the S-70 Okhotnik. Other indications suggest that the aircraft was developed primarily for export, as Russian two-seat fighters have enjoyed significantly greater success with foreign customers.
