Décoration spéciale appliquée sur un Grumman G-1159 Gulfstream II-SP du National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) - Agence de défense antimissile (MDA) prêté à l'USAF en remplacement du Boeing NKC-135E "Stratotanker Big Crow" utilisé comme cible de missile balistique pour les tests avec un marquage spécial dans le cadre du programe YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL). La forme de missile blanc peint sur le côté de l'avion est censé représenter exactement cela ... un missile. Remarque Il y a ce qui semble être des lumières à l'intérieur de la fenêtre directement derrière l'extrémité arrière de la silhouette de fusée ... celles-ci représentent la chaleur et la lumière qui émanent des moteurs du missile lors d'un lancement. Un avion comme 950NA permet à l'ABL de tester la capacité de suivi en se concentrant sur l'avion «Target», au lieu d'avoir un missile réel.
Special decoration applied on a Grumman G-1159 Gulfstream II-SP of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) - Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) loaned to the USAF to replace the Boeing NKC-135E "Stratotanker Big Crow" used as a ballistic missile target for tests with a special marking as part of the YAL-1 Airborne Laser (ABL) program. The white missile shape painted on the side of the aircraft is supposed to represent exactly that... A missile. Note there is what appears to be lights inside the window directly behind the back end of the rocket silhouette... These represent the heat and light that would emanate from the missile's engines during a launch. An aircraft like 950NA allows the ABL to test the tracking ability by focusing on the 'target' aircraft, instead of having to have an actual missile launched.

Big Crow is the designation of the two NKC-135 test-bed aircraft (55-3132 and 63-8050) heavily modified for electronic warfare testing. These planes were also used as a target simulator for flight testing the Boeing YAL-1 Airborne Laser. On March 15, 2007, the YAL-1 successfully fired this laser in flight, hitting its target. The target was the NKC-135E Big Crow 1 test aircraft that had been specially modified with a "signboard" target on its fuselage. The test validated the system's ability to track an airborne target and measure and compensate for atmospheric distortion.
