Décoration spéciale appliquée sur un General Dynamics F-16D "Fighting Falcon" du 8th Fighter Squadron (8 FS) "The Black Sheep" - 54th Fighter Groupe (54 FG) affecté au 56th Fighter Wing (56 FW) de l' US Air Force (USAF) basé à Holloman AFB avec une décoration spéciale "Mig Killer". Ce F-16D accrocheur honore l'héritage de plus de 20 ans d'opérations aériennes du CENTCOM, tout en capturant l'histoire significative de ce jet particulier. Le 27 décembre 1992, le capitaine Gary "Nordo" North participait à l'opération "Southern Watch", surveillant l'espace aérien au sud du 33e parallèle à bord de ce F-16D. Ce jour-là, le capitaine North est entré dans l'histoire en abattant un MiG-25 Foxbat irakien à l'aide d'un AIM-120 AMRAAM. C'était à la fois la première fois que l'AIM-120 était utilisé pour tuer un MiG-25 Foxbat et la première fois que le F-16 était utilisé par l'USAF pour tuer un MiG-25 Foxbat. Aujourd'hui, ce jet porte ce spectaculaire camouflage dans le désert en hommage à ce jour historique. Au moment de l'abattage, l'avion faisait partie du 19ème FS mais était prêté au 33ème FS.

This eye-catching F-16D honors the heritage of over 20 years of CENTCOM air operations, while also capturing the significant history of this particular jet. On December 27, 1992 Capt. Gary “Nordo” North was flying as part of Operation Southern Watch, policing the airspace south of the 33rd parallel in this F-16D. That day Capt. North would make history when he downed an Iraqi MiG-25 Foxbat using an AIM-120 AMRAAM. It was both the 1st kill using the AIM-120 and the 1st kill the F-16 scored in USAF service. Now this jet wears this spectacular desert camouflage as a tribute to that historic day. At the time of the kill the aircraft was part of the 19th FS but on loan to the 33rd FS.
